The mid Tweed Valley is defined by rolling hills and a network of tributaries feeding into the River Tweed. This is an area of immense natural and historical interest. This six day break links Peebles with Selkirk and is directly inspired by the legacy of Robert Mathison (1832-1891), founding president of the extraordinary Innerleithen Alpine Club. Founded in the 1880s the club set out to discover more about the history, geology and botany of the Borders –and to encourage Borderers to look afresh at their immediate surroundings. Early club members included John Buchan’s uncle, William. Its popularity spread like wild fire. Many of our day walks – along drove roads or valley floors – are influenced by Mathison’s excursions. This fascinating trip is for both excursionist and gourmet alike.
