OUR ITINERARY
Day 1 Pick up in Edinburgh and travel north via Callendar, Crianlarich and Tyndrum and then west to Oban to catch the ferry to Mull. There are stops en route to breathe in the magnificent scenery we will be passing through. Arrive at our hotel in time to settle in and have dinner.
Day 2 Salen to Killiechronan: a walk which traverses the narrowest part of Mull from coast to coast and back again, taking in the lovely bay of Killiechronan, an iron age hill fort and Aros Castle overlooking the Sound of Mull and the mouth of the river Aros. 5 hours.
Day 3 Iona, the mission base for bringing Christianity to Scotland. We visit Iona Abbey which is built on the site of Columba’s ancient community, and walk the less frequented parts of the island. We pay a short visit to Duart Castle on the return journey, allowing time for a walk in the grounds. 3-4 hours
Day 4 Ben More or a rest day. For the more active, there is a climb up Mull’s only mountain over 3000 feet, which gains it the title of a “Munro”. However there is the option of taking a quieter day in Tobermory and adding on a sea trip to try and catch a glimpse of dolphins, sea eagles and basking sharks. 4-5 hours. |

Day 5 Coastal walk to the Carsaig Arches. This fabulous rock formation yields itself only to the fit and persistent after a five mile coastal walk on the south east coast of Mull, along the Sound of Lorne, over rugged terrain, which must be retraced to regain the road and our transport back. 5-6 hours.
Day 6 Ulva and the quiet desolation of Mull’s best kept secret. We cross by the tiny ferry to this wild and lonely island for a day of coastal walking and the delights of fresh seafood at the ferry tearoom. Miniature versions of the basalt formations of Staffa and the deserted village from which Livingstone’s parents came are all part of our itinerary. 3-4 hours.
Day 7 Return to Edinburgh this time by way of Loch Awe and Kilchurn Castle, Inverary with its beautiful castle and grounds, Loch Lomond and the ancient village of Luss, before heading back to Edinburgh.
Price £616 per person. Based on two people sharing a room.
